    • Thank you, Adrian. I liked best that the stone steps look like geological strata with different textures. I think that the steps had been worn smooth over centuries of use, and attempts have been made to roughen the surfaces so that people would not slip. Some of the “etchings” seem to have been chemically induced ( perhaps acid) and some by a regular chipping of the stone with a chisel.

      • Your attentiveness to the world around you makes me think of a book I’ve just finished called “The Walker’s Guide To Outdoor Clues & Signs” by Tristan Gooley. Might be a book you’d enjoy.
